"The Locals," Cripple Creek

Working with member organizations, T.H.E. Coalition board has achieved much in the organization’s nine year history:

  • Helped member organizations identify obtain grants, including funding for “The Locals,” a public art project of the Two Mile High Club that honors the role played by donkeys in the Cripple Creek gold mining days.
  • Serves as fiscal agent for the Victor Penguins, the Two Mile High Club, Rural Land Preservation Group (RLPG) and Woodland Park Hockey Association.
  • Co-sponsors RLPG’s popular series of forums for ranchers and landowners “It’s My Land, So What Are My Options?”
  • Co-sponsors workshops and The Nonprofit Resource Center at the Woodland Park Public Library in collaboration with the Rampart Library District.
  • Managed the five-year collaborative effort among RLPG, Palmer Land Trust and Teller County Parks to preserve 1,300 acres of scenic landscape and wildlife habitat, completing the 5,000 acre Pikes Peak Conservation Corridor.

T.H.E. Coalition has now undertaken its most ambitious, collaborative and long range project to date … preservation and adaptive re-use of the over 100-year old Midland Railway Depot in Divide and surrounding four acres. “Depot Park” will become a multi-faceted complex serving as the gateway and information center for the historic, sightseeing and recreational opportunities in the area. The completed project will include historic exhibits, a visitor center and a small community park with trailhead.
